Hawala conduits turned businessmen out to dupe suppliers, banks | Kashmir Unrest | | Early Times Report jammu, Nov 8: As the continuous shutdown in Kashmir completed four months today and people are yearning for normalcy, a few elements are trying their best to prolong the unrest for their vested interests. Sources told Early Times a few businessmen, who have taken huge loans from banks, are not interested in situation returning to normal in Kashmir as they would have to clear their pending installments and interests which have got accumulated during all these months. "Many businessmen owe money to their suppliers in Jammu and other parts of the country. They want shutdown to continue so that they can withhold their payments on the pretext of prevailing uncertainty in Kashmir," said a source. He said, "A few businessmen have got it conveyed to the separatists to carry on with the shutdown so they are able to dodge the people whom they owe money." Sources revealed that a few businessmen and politicians of mainstream parties want pot to remain boiling as unrest suits them. "A few traders have assured the separatists that they would support them as long as they want. They are claiming that they represent the entire business community in Kashmir but the fact of the matter is that they are just a handful of businessmen, who in the past were involved in Hawala transactions and have acted as conduits for the separatists," said a source. A Kashmir watcher said, "People who are not with separatists have already defied the shutdown and are facing stone-pelters and arsonists every day. Many vehicles whose window panes were smashed by miscreants are moving on the Srinagar roads with broken wind shields. Shopkeepers in uptown areas and in outskirts of Srinagar are doing regular business giving damn to protest calendar and senseless shutdown called by the separatists at the behest of Pakistan." He said that separatists on one hand are pretending that they are with the people while on other hand they are asking their henchmen to continue with the arson. "Miscreants set ablaze five shops in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir's Anantnag district on late Monday night. These shops were located at Zirpora the hometown of the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. It's strange that despite state government asking Police and security agencies to remain soft towards separatists they are trying to intimidate the authorities by burning shops and schools in Kashmir," the Kashmir watcher added. An analyst said, "Kashmir stands devastated and it looks difficult that normalcy would be restored as Pak-agents and their henchmen are out to destroy the Valley where everything has come to a halt due to separatists calling the shots and creating a civil war like situation." |
