Patwari who accompanied land grabbers to Pahalgam Suspended | | | Saahil Suhail ET Report anantnag, Nov 8: Acting on 'Early Times' report, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr Syed Aabid Rasheed Shah (IAS) on Tuesday placed Patwari Halqa Pahalgam under suspension for helping some influential family to grab forest land at Pahalgam on Sunday under the grab of disputed 60-C Gazette. "Ghulam Nabi Banday, Patwari Halqa Pahalgam is hereby placed under suspension and is directed to report in the office of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir till further orders," reads an order issued by the deputy commissioner. The Revenue official was suspended vide Government Order No. 105/DCA of 2016. It is worth to mention here that the official was spotted by locals, accompanying a group of people at Pahalgam and trying to help them in grabbing a patch of land in Pahalgam forests. According to residents, the family was trying to occupy the land under the grab of disputed 60-c gazette issued by Erstwhile Maharaja in 1944. "We spotted few people and a revenue officer in Ganeshbal area today. They were trying to mark and fence a patch of forest land," Mohd Jabber, a local resident had told Early Times. He said, "Patwari Ghulam Nabi Banday argued with us, tried to motivate but we foiled their effort. We conveyed them that no one will be allowed to grab forest land in Pahalgam," Residents said that they informed Forest department officials, who arrived on the spot and frisked away the land grabbers. "They tried to plead their case by saying that they have purchased the land from a Pandit family but we made clear before them and the public no such plots under 60-C have been identified," Shabir Ahmad Khawaja, forest officer told Early Times. He said that foiling such land grab attempts has become routine affair for the forest department in Pahalgam. Senior Revenue officials on being contacted said that they were unaware of such a development and also hadn't directed the said revenue official to accompany any private party. Local sources said that the revenue official who has spent most of his service time in Pahalgam is habitual of striking major land deals. "He don't have time for the work he has been assigned. It is irony that he remains busy with influential people and helps them to strike land deals," they alleged. |
