Jammu, Nov 14: With a renewed focus on forgotten forest foods ,innovative onspot edible plant identification ,revival of traditional rural foods under Tree Talk event was organized today in coordination with Red cross society & Botany department where following inputs were generated for better understanding of neighbourhood Phytodiversity and potential under forest food plant value addition for securing health benefits and fighting malnutrition as envisaged under UN declared Sustainable Development Goals (SDG Goals 2030). What new was attempted in today's Tree Talk was Artemisia tea (Zooni chai) from Artemisia maritima brewed, Hibiscus tea (Gudhal chai) from Hibiscus rosa sinensis brewed, Wild edible plants like Boerhaavia coccinea (Itt sitt),Trianthema portulacastrum (Santhi) shortlisted for value addition, Autumn blooming trees like Prunus cerasoides(Pajja) ,Nyctanthes arbor tristis (Parijat) shortlisted for introduction in Jammu city, Women college students motivated to undertake forest food value addition for forthcoming MAM stadium Forestry event to mark 125 years of Forestry in India ( 1891-2016), Teachings of Guru Nanak Dev ji and other Gurus linked to ecofriendly self-sustaining lifestyle and sacred tree planting to mark festivals, acred tree groves at Chandigam in Lolab ,Jatwal in Samba & Baba Bheem di Bani at Chadai focused to strengthen community conservation in the state, Fresh fruit (Amla,Bel), leaf (Neem,Sahijan,Ghrit kunwari, Tulsi, Nazposh, Tengu), seed (Babbri beol, Malkangni), stem (Giloe, Parijat, Nirgundi, Adusa), root (Chukandar, Semal, Shatavri, Vidari, Khuskhus, Doob) juices mooted for morning walkers as seen at Park of fragrance Chandigarh. |
