Estates deptt engages private security agency in violation of norms | Locals allege nepotism | | Akshay Azad Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Estates department has engaged private security guards "solely for regulating traffic", in the government quarters reportedly without inviting tenders. Allegations of giving benefit to a private security agency have been leveled by insiders against the department. Inmates at present putting up in Ahata Tawaza and Ahata Poonch House Panjthirthi of Estate department informed Early Times that since they have moved to winter capital, they have been witnessing the presence of private security personal at the entrance of quarters. "We already have watchman, gatekeepers besides other employees of Estate department there. In the name of security, government has provided Central Reserve Police Personnel or ITBP personnel to guard besides at some quarters security staff of Jammu and Kashmir police is also deputed but now we also have these private security guards", an insider said, adding that the rationale of keeping private security guards was beyond comprehension. Sources further alleged that on one hand Prime Minister Narender Modi has been doing everything to make country corruption free but these practices were nothing more than practices to gather money. "The public exchequer is being looted by wasteful expenditure by some officials and there is every apprehension that only to give benefit to some private security agency personnel, the decision was taken", he said. An official said that it had been reliably learnt that private security guards were engaged without inviting any tender notice by the Estate department. Deputy Director of Estate department Satish Sharma said that last year, when Chief Secretary of state had visited the quarters, he had taken serious note of traffic chaos in the government quarter premises. "He had directed the department to engage private staff for regulating the traffic, after which the Estate department had engaged these private guards only to regulate traffic", he said. On being asked, if any tender was floated, Sharma said that they were hired from private security agencies on approved rates. |
