Many reach exam centre after scheduled time | Lack of transport leaves candidates, parents fuming | | Saqib Ahmad Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 14: While the government remained adamant on holding class 12th and 10th students, the candidates who appeared in exams on Monday were seen fuming over Education Minister Naeem Akhtar for failing to make transport arrangements for the candidates. Thousands of class 12th students Monday appeared in the annual board examinations in the Valley. Although students were keen to appear in the exams despite the education institutions remain shut for the last four months, but government had not made any transport arrangements for students thus giving tough times for the candidates to reach to examination centres. "I left home (Zakura) at 9 am and had to reach to examination centre at 11am at Kothi Bagh Higher Secondary. But I could not board an auto or sumo to reach the examination centre on time and was 45 minute late to sit in the examination," said a candidate Saima, who had to appear at Kothi Bagh High Secondary Srinagar. Another student Zuhaib, who had examination centre at Amar Singh College said the lack of transport gave tough times to students to reach the exam centres. "This is not necessary for every one to have a vehicle or bike at home. Education Minister Naeem Akhtar was only interesting to conduct without making any transport arrangements for the students," said Zamruda, who was accompanying her daughter, who had to reach Amira Kadal Higher Secondary. "We reached to the examination centre on feet as no one offered us even a lift. Government should have atleast make some transport arrangement for the candidates who had to appear in the exams," she said. Similarly the students said there were no heating heating arrangements despite the candidates have deposited fee for heating arrangements. About 484 centres have been set up for about 48,000 candidates for class 12 examination across Kashmir division. The government had decided to hold the exams as scheduled despite demands by parents that they be put off as the unrest had disrupted educational activities in the Valley. Massive security arrangements are in place for the smooth conduct of the examinations. However, there were no restrictions on the movement of people anywhere in the Valley, an officials said. Along with the heavy rush of vehicles, shops were also open in areas like civil lines and outskirts of the city as well as in few of the rural areas in other districts of Kashmir. |
