People openly defy separatists' shutdowns | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Nov 14: Defying the separatists' diktats, people have started resuming their normal life as shopkeepers keep shops open and traffic ply normally in parts of Kashmir. Even though there has been continuous shutdown calls by separatists private, passenger vehicles and auto rickshaws are plying normally in parts of Kashmir roads for the last few weeks. Even the street vendors have set up their stalls selling the goods to the customers. Even, there were some people who are enforcing shutdown but people don't adhere their threat calls. "There are some miscreants who are vandalizing the property and beat the people who move out of their homes. But why would we stay at homes. Who will feed our family members," said Mukhtar Ahmad, a driver. He said these miscreants cause disturbances by harassing shopkeepers, creating disruptions in traffic movement by placing obstructions and burning the vehicles to enforce shutdown. Many vendors had put up their stalls along TRC Chowk-Batamaloo axis through Lal Chowk city centre, while banks were also open across the Valley and witnessed rush of customers. "Some miscreants have made the life in parts of Old City Srinagar a hell. Who so ever is in the car or in auto rickshaw, they damage the vehicles and beat the people. Now everyone here is defeating their nefarious designs," Ali Mohammad, a resident of old city Srinagar told early TIMES. With Kashmir limping back to normalcy, the patient rush has increased in Valley hospitals who could not visit health institutions due to prevailing situation. Manzoor Ahmad of Baramulla had to bring his ailing father to the Chest Disease Hospital Dalgate for check-up for four months but the stone pelters didn't allow them us to see the doctor. "We tried number of times to reach the hospital but were denied by protestors to move ahead despite showing them the prescription letter," Rehman said, who was waiting in a queue along with his aged father on Monday. Similarly, in other hospitals of Srinagar, there has been huge rush of patients for the last few days who could not come for the check-up since July 9. There was a significant increase in movement of people and transport across the Valley as the annual board examinations began on Monday. |
