Bijay Charak Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 14: The proposed academic session that was to be begun in 2014-15 at Government Ayurvedic College (GAC) Jammu, is likely to face more delay, as the construction work on upcoming campus is running behind the deadline. According to the proposal to set up GAC Jammu, 50 percent funding was to be provided by the state government and the rest by the Centre. The Centre paid its 50 percent share, that is, Rs 13 crore, and construction began in 2009, said sources, adding that despite lapse of seven years the state government is not providing the funds. The authorities had set a target of starting BAMS degree courses in the Ayurvedic College in the academic session 2014-15. Now, the courses will get further delayed as the college awaits permission from the Central Council for Indian Medicines (CCIM) and the government of India. "With incomplete infrastructure, the state government had approached both CCIM and the Centre for grant of recognition to Ayurvedic College. The same was rejected", sources said, adding that for starting the degree courses of BAMS certain formalities and requirements are to be fulfilled which have not been done so far. Moreover, for starting the degree courses in the college it needs a staff strength of hundreds of people including professors, readers, paramedical staff, etc. That has not been sanctioned yet by the government, which means first batch of BAMS would not commence in forthcoming session. When contacted Nodal Officer, Ayurvedic College Jammu, Dr Narinder, said, "We have applied for CCIM registration last month. A CCIM team visited the site for inspection." "Without legal formalities and registration process, how is it possible to start undergraduate and graduate courses in the college? If the process would be completed this year we hope that first batch would be commence next year," Dr. Narinder added. |
