Disgruntled Srinagar locals approach PM against Power Ministry
11/14/2016 11:45:36 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 14: Dismayed over the poor response rendered by the state dispensation since years, people from one of the area of Srinagar have directly written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking him to intervene and take remedial measures to end their plight.
Reports inform that locals hailing from one of the areas of Srinagar- Lal Bazar-have unanimously shot a detailed letter about the dismal performance of Jammu and Kashmir's power ministry over providing them the electricity supplies as per the norms.
Disgruntled as their pleas were falling to deaf ears in the state government, the locals unanimously decided to write a detailed letter to the Prime Minister and apprise him about the mis-governance taking toll in the area and how the State Power Ministry has been taking them for a ride for the past seven years.
Locals said that power meters were installed by the PDD in every nook and the corner of the area in 2009. As per the norms, the areas with meters installed are bound to receive electricity with no pro-longed cuts. However, the area till date has been receiving erratic supplies with power being snapped for 10 hours continuously every day. "Hardly there is any night when we receive electricity. The PDD has been punishing us and taking us for a ride everyday," says Mushtaq Ahmad, a local.
He added further: "As per Government policy regarding putting an area under the round the clock category is that it should be 100 percent metered. PDD generates high revenue from our area. We have at numerous times appealed Chief Engineer PDD to look into the matter and direct the concerned officials to put our area in round the clock feeder but nothing happened. We even wrote to the power minister but to no avail," Mushtaq seconded by others lamented.
At the onset of winters this year, sensing the state government is in a sleeping mode, the locals decided to take up the matter with the Prime Minister. "When Chief Engineer and other officials of the state weren't doing enough, we wrote to the Prime Minister of the country and narrated the ordeal we have been in since past seven years. We are hopeful that he will listen to our woes," locals said.
The letter that locals submitted to the Prime Minister via the online medium narrates how the state government did nothing of any sort to address their grievances which according to them were genuine and just. "For one more time we are requesting you sir- Please provide us power as you are providing to the other metered areas in Kashmir. Please tell the JK government to don't say this time again that our area isn't fully metered- they have been saying this for four years. Please have some mercy on our old aged people and our infant children. Locals of Feeder Number 1, Lal Bazar, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir," reads the concluding parra of the letter.
Locals added that if the state government continues with its policy of delay in addressing their genuine grievances related to power, they will be keeping the Prime Minister's office in loop.
"If anyone has the capability to address our woes, it is the Prime Minister. Only he will represent our case and give patient hearing to our pleas," locals said.
Meanwhile, the status of the letter at Prime Minister's portal informs that within mere two days of time, the application has been forwarded to the Secretary GAD, Jammu and Kashmir M A Bukhari for urgent action.
