Temple Land Invitational Golf Tournament costs Rs 500 per golfer | While Valley golfing is free of cost | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 14: Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi who attended the prize distribution ceremony of the 'Temple Land Invitational Golf Tournament' at Jammu Tawi Golf Course, Sidhra might be less aware as to why the golfers playing in the tournament were charged Rs 500 per individual in Jammu while the Kashmir golf venue remains free of cost for valley visitors. This came into spotlight, when the golfers attending the prize ceremony function alleged that they were charged Rs 500 each by the authorities for participation in the event. Though the phone call to the MoS was left unattended by the minister and was not available for the comment, an official from Srinagar in Tourism department confirmed on anonymity that the succeeding invitations to the Kashmir golf course will not be free of cost. Though earlier it was free entry to golfers in Kashmir to participate in the tournament in the valley, but now onwards the golfers participating in any golf tournament whether in valley or Jammu will be charged fee for participation," said the tourism official. How much could be relied upon such statement is a farfetched thing at present, but under the garb of discrimination, it was well established that Jammu golfers were kept in dark by charging Rs 500 per person attending the show while in valley; all shows that have been reported till date were free of cost. Sethi who attended the ceremony had said that the 18 hole Jammu Tawi Golf course is a step to alleviate the game at international standards and is equipped to host national and international level tournaments. Though the suggestion mooted by the MoS was praiseworthy, yet the government's nonchalance, with which she is also a minister, duping people and audience on the occasion is a serious issue here where Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced fight against black money and corruption. "The surgical strike by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a welcome step to plug the black money, but besides, looking into some discrepancies and the indiscrimination meted out to particular sect of people, region or class and favoring the other should also be on the Prime Minister's agenda," said Yogesh Gandotra , an ardent follower of golf. He said while the Prime Minister was asking his countrymen to give him 50 days' time to set the things right , how he can forget his own people in the government evading certain issues of discrimination when his one of the MoS attends a function in a state on one venue where the money is charged from the people , while on the other part , all is scot-free. Yogesh also dismissed the official statement in anonymity that in succeeding time the venue will be rendered charge- free saying," Golf venue after being touched by Early Times might go free of charge in future, but refused to admit that many other discriminations may be put aside in Jammu and Kashmir which has brought a big cleavage between both the regions. Another golfer Rajesh Sharma expressed the same concern saying that another act of discrimination will soon surface under the nose of BJP administration for Jammu when another minister would be committing the same blunder knowingly or unknowingly. |
