Jammu BJP has forgotten Pt. Prem Nath Dogra
11/14/2016 11:54:13 PM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 14: The Jammu BJP leadership has, it seems, forgotten Pt Prem Nath Dogra, who fought relentlessly for the national cause in Jammu & Kashmir as well as for Jammu and Ladakh. It appears to be busy in petty politicking. The situation has reached a point where the BJP leadership doesn't even issue statements aimed at defeating the designs of Kashmiri leadership and New Delhi. If at all it issues any statement, it carries no weight, as most of the statements are without any substance.
Notwithstanding the fact that the BJP has lost most of its appeal and sheen because of what its various leaders, especially MLAs, have been doing since March 2015, it still has the chance to turn tables on its political rivals, especially the unpopular Congress. But its problem is that it is not prepared to exploit the Congress's unpopularity. Like the Panthers Party, the state BJP also doesn't look after the constituencies it at present represents in the assembly. Its ministers are ministers not of the state but of their respective constituencies. Even the people there are not happy. They have several complaints. They say the ministers are not accessible.
The Jammu BJP leadership must go through what Pt Prem Nath Dogra as president of Praja Parishad wrote President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad on June 19, 1952 and act accordingly.
Dogra, among other important things, wrote: "The circumstances have forced us to approach your honour with the request which may look drastic but which is the only alternative now left to us. I am leaving out of consideration for the moment those parts of the state which are now under the illegal occupation of Pakistan (read POJK and Gilgit-Baltitan). Indian territory of the state is made of three distinct regions, namely, Jammu, Ladakh and Kashmir Valley. The people of each of these regions are a distinct people with a distinct language, culture and history and a definite territory…We of Jammu claim the right to determine our own future ourselves. Kashmir Valley, the most populous region, held with us view that the state should accede to India as one of its integral part like other part B states. We need not have made this demand. But now that we find that the state constituent assembly is taking the decision for the entire state in matters of fundamental importance to the future existence which runs counter to the declared wishes and are detrimental to our interests and whatever may be the views regions of the state about their accession to India being limited only to certain number of subjects, we of Jammu province hold this view ascertained and verified by any recognized democratic method through an agency independent of the present Kashmir government. We are glad to note from the speeches of Shri Kushak Bakula that Ladakh holds similar views and demands similar rights for that region. Sheikh Abdullah is also reported to have said in one of his speeches 'if Jammu and Ladakh so desire, they can decide to integrate with India and leave Kashmir Valley free to have limited accession'. Being the descendants of those who sacrificed their blood and resources to build up this great and integrated state, it was our desire that the entire state, including those parts which are still held by Pakistan should form like other part B states an integral part of Republic of India. To bring about that consolidation we are prepared like our ancestors willingly and cheerfully to make the greatest sacrifice including that of life to re-conquer for India what rightfully belongs to her and us. But till that happens we cannot agree with Sheikh Abdullah that, like Kashmir Valley, we also should accede to our Motherland with reservations".
What Dogra wrote on June 19, 1952 is relevant even today, as the Kashmiri leadership is conducting itself in the manner Sheikh Abdullah and his NC conducted themselves. The Jammu BJP leadership as well as the party high command in New Delhiwould do well to rise to the occasion and follow in the footsteps of Pt Prem Nath Dogra. It is a must.
