Dry spell resulting into forest fires in Banihal
Locals in panic as frequent fires reported in two forest compartments

Banihal, Nov 14: As the dry spell continues in the northern region including state, the ongoing climatic spell in the area is resulting into incidents of forest fires in forest sub division Banihal resulting panic among locals.
Reports said that two forest compartments in forest Sub Division Banihal are under fire from last two days and the teams of forest department are on job to control the fire.
"The wild fires were reported from Forest Compartment No 52 in Doligam and Compartment No 42 in Chahal of Banihal forest Sub Division Banihal on Monday which resulted the damage of undergrowth spread over a huge area," police said.
"Two forest compartments in two different areas of Forest Division Banihal caught fire and the teams of forest department are on job in the areas to control the fire, sources said.
Range Officer Banihal is monitoring the situation himself with the fire fighting teams of the department. However fire was not controlled when the reports last came in and the teams of forest department are trying hard to control on the fire.
Range officer Banihal said that the teams are on job to control the fire. He added that it was the ground fire and the green trees are still safe. He appealed the locals that give their support to forest department for avoiding such incidents. He also requested the local people that don't through any kind of burning thing, match sticks or cigarette in the forest areas to save the green gold.
