Early Times Report Vijaypur, Nov 17: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today condemned BJP Government for forcing displaced persons to file affidavit after accepting Rs 5 lakhs as compensation that they will not claim further compensation. "BJP is misleading the displaced persons who have been suffering from decades and presently, also they are facing hostile situation on the border," said Manjit Singh, senior Congress leader. Congress leader Singh said that the DPs of 1947, 1965 and 1971 were earlier recommended by the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) a compensation of Rs 30 lakhs to each family and then, Government had announced Rs 25 lakhs as compensation to these DP families. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had some reservations over compensation recommended by the UPA Government and JPC claiming that it was not enough and made tall claims. When BJP was elected to Government, the BJP forget its promises, he said, adding, "Now Rs 5 lakhs is being given to the DPs as compensation and they are being pressurized to give affidavit that they will not again approach for compensation after taking Rs 5 lakhs." Highlighting plight of DPs, Manjit Singh said, Kashmiri Pandits have been enjoying all the facilities, reservation in jobs, education sector and their properties are safe in Kashmir while the DPs have been discriminated by the BJP Government. He said that the Government should reconsider its decision and enhance compensation amount to Rs 25 lakhs per DP family. At the same time he cautioned administration if they continue to force the DPs to give affidavits, people will come on the roads and hold protests. |
