Govt tightens noose around delinquent employees after 4 months | | | Saqib Ahmad
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 17: State Government seems to have finally woken up and decided to act against officials who stayed away from their duties during the last four months of unrest in the Valley. Government is in the process of identifying such employees who obeyed the protest and shut calendars of the separatists rather than the appeals and warnings of the government to assume their duties, thereby allowing many illegal activities during the period of unrest including illegal constructions and encroachments. Government has also prepared a list of encroachers who have raised illegal constructions during the last few months. Under prevailing situation, illegal constructions have come up in many areas of the Srinagar city and scores of cases have been registered by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) in this regard. Government has taken a serious note of encroachment on state land and said that the concerned officials will be held responsible for not acting against encroachers. "It has been reported that due to present unrest, unscrupulous elements have reportedly encroached upon state land. The concerned officials shall be personally held responsible for such cases and stern action as per law shall be taken against such officials," a government circular issued to district development commissioners said. The District Development commissioners have been directed to ensure removal of the encroachments if any made "under the garb of present situation" and also make ensure no encroachment takes place in the future. Further the government has asked people to refrain from sale or purchase of state land which has been encroached upon by the unscrupulous elements during the unrest. Employees have however rued the stringent stand of the government against the employees. An official of the revenue department said the government was holding employees responsible for "dereliction of duties" when people of the Valley were caged-in for weeks inside their homes. "How was it possible for employees to attend duties when Valley was under curfew for weeks and scores of employees got injured or were beaten up by protestors when they were on way to offices," the official said. The action against employees for "dereliction" of duties comes after termination of 12 employees from their services. The government is now considering installing close circuit television cameras in offices having large public interface to keep proper surveillance on officials. |
