Govt orders inquiry into premature transfer of BLW | Follow-up | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Nov 17: The state government has ordered an inquiry into the "premature" transfer of a Gram Sevak working in Sunderbani here who was "targeted" only because his presence was allegedly hindering corruption and political interference in the execution of government works. Officials said the Commissioner Secretary, Rural Development Department, has directed the Block Development Officer concerned to explain as to why this Gram Sevak was transferred. "We have sought a written explanation from the BDO concerned as there seems to be no convincing reason for the premature transfer," said a senior official in the Civil Secretariat. The BDO is understood to have been told to be prepared to face the music if he is found guilty of foul play in the transfer. The report is likely to be submitted within a week. In August this year, Happy Raina, a Gram Sevak or Block Level Worker (BLW) was transferred to Sunderbani for execution of works under the MGNREGA. While the villagers were satisfied with his work, his honesty proved an eyesore for the BJP workers who were already under scanner for bungling in the execution of the MGNREGA projects in the area. Early Times had recently reported that the BJP workers called on the BDO and asked him to "get rid of the man who was hindrance in their nefarious designs." His transfer had prompted the villagers led by the area Sarpanch to threaten the government of roadside protests should it fail to revoke the transfer order. |
