Separatists punish common man for defying diktats | Miscreants attack vehicles, civilians; Govt's soft policy proving counterproductive | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 23: Separatists are reportedly trying to regroup themselves and intensify stone pelting in different parts of Kashmir to threaten and intimidate the people who are defying their shutdown and chalo calls. Sources told Early Times that separatists have told their henchmen to attack the people who open their shops and dare to come out of their homes. Miscreants have changed their strategy instead of appearing during the day these miscreants appear during evenings and target the vehicles when it's dark. After pelting stones they run away under the cover of darkness. In separate incidents since Tuesday, four persons, including a three year old girl child were injured in stone pelting incidents in south Kashmir. The miscreants attacked the vehicle with stones near Batengo Bijbehara last evening injuring a three year old girl and three others. The injured toddler suffered head injuries and she was rushed to SKIMS Soura where she is battling for her life. In another incident a shopkeeper was beaten to pulp by the miscreants at Nikas in south Kashmir's Pulwama district for opening his shop and defying the diktats of separatists. Sources said, "Police and intelligence agencies have recommended to the government to restrict the movement of separatists and put them behind bars. One of the separatists is believed to have taken the charge and is leaving no stone unturned to foment trouble as he has assured his bosses sitting across the Line of Control (LoC) that he would keep the pot boiling come what may." A Police official wishing anonymity said, "Henchmen of a particular separatist leader have roped in criminals, former militants, drug addicts and others. They have scattered them in different areas. They appear soon after the dusk and start pelting stones on whoever comes in their way." He said, "Police and other agencies are tackling them but to restore normalcy fully we need permission to act tough against the so-called separatist leader who is encouraging the criminals to rule the streets of Kashmir and these cowards become active in dead of the night." The Police official said, "If we have to restore normalcy then we have to address the root cause rather than going after the miscreants." A source said, "The so-called united separatist leadership is a farce. Two of the separatists are unaware about what is happening around them while the only one among them is calling the shots. He is doing so to intimidate the government to release his passport so that he can travel outside the country and collect some money as demonetization has broken the back of separatists. Presently his henchmen are resorting to extortion at local level to sustain." A Kashmir watcher said, "Common Kashmiri is suffering due to the state government's soft approach towards the separatists. Government should launch a decisive campaign against these elements to restore complete peace in Kashmir." |
