Fresh attempts on to promote peace on Indo-China border | | | It will be a miracle of the century if India and China work out a methodology for maintaining peace on Indo-China border.During the last one year the Chinese Army resorts to breey incursions and later withdraw whenever the Indian troops face them.In fact the era of Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai had come to an end with the 1962 war.Since then the relations between the two sides have remained under stress and strain. However,a series of meetings between the Chinese President and the Indian Prime Minister seem to have eased tension a bit.But the main issue has not died down because China claims ownership of Arunachal Pradesh and some border areas of Ladakh which is not to the liking of India. And the current visit of the Indian Army Chief, Gen. Dalbir Singh to China may turn the tide in favour of India. Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Dalbir Singh, who is on a visit to China, and top Chinese military officials, have, reiterated their call to maintain peace along the India-China border, and keep up the momentum of high-level military exchanges between the two countries. General Dalbir Singh met General Xu Qiliang, the vice-chairman of Central Military Commission (CMC). Earlier, he had been welcomed by General Li Zuocheng, of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), with a guard of honour. "During the call-on both of them reiterated their desire to keep up the momentum of defence exchanges and the need to keep the borders tranquil and peaceful,During talks with Gen. Li, both sides welcomed the on-going 6th India-China Joint Training Exercise 'Hand-in-Hand' 2016, in India. They also agreed to further expand defence exchanges between the two Armies. China's military reforms have also included formation of combat-focused theater commands, capable of projecting force over longer distances, using integrated assets on land, sea, air and space It is in the interests of India and in the interest of peace in the south Asian region if China and India bury the hatchet and work together to end the menace of terror. Well like India China too is prone to the onslaughts of terrorists especially in the Xinziang area which lies close to Pakistan. And there have been incidents of clashes between the Chinese troops and the terrorists. Extremists from Pakistan have been able to build scores of mosques in Xinxiang province and there are cases where the Chinese have been forcibly converted to Islam. Hence the threat to China from terrorists is as great as they hold for India.Well it depends on the role Pakistan will play in case China and India sign an agreement on maintaining peace and truce on the border.China has proved a dependable friend of Pakistan and Pakistan may not want India and China to promote cordial ties because it knows that tension between India and China could be fruitful for Pakistan. But if India and China mend their fences and build bridges of peace the two could pose a challenge to the super powers. |
