Influential docs get choicest postings in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, June 28: From past several years, many doctors have not been transferred in different hospitals of Kashmir valley, with the result they have created their own lobby while some hard working and sincere doctors believe that their career has been put at stake. Knowledgeable sources in the Health department said that there is a nexus between mafias and some officials of the department concerned. From the past several months, the practice of transfers and promotions in the Health department is in progress as the doctors posted in far-flung areas of Kashmir valley have some good contacts with the higher official of the department. With the help of the mafias money is exchanged for their transfer, sources told Early Times. They said that the doctors are supposed to serve for at least two years in a particular area, but due to their influence they get themselves transferred from that area within two years only. Sources said that from time to time government issued a circular to many departments like Education, Sports, R&B etc where they have been told not to move the directorate office during their office timing. But no such circular has been issued to the Health department so far. "In south, north and central Kashmir, there are many doctors who performed their duties at one place from past five to ten years, but still they were not transferred. The fact is that the doctors who wished not to serve in these districts were transferred to their choice of posting before due time," sources maintained. They said that the peripheral health care is in complete mess and patients suffer because of non-availability of doctors. Instead of focusing on patient care they seek favors for securing their places of posting. While a transfer policy was adopted in the interest of patient care and to address the shortage of doctors in far-flung areas, it has been shelved and is confined to papers only, said sources. Sources said that the minimum tenure of a doctor on a post shall be two to three years, but there are doctors who are constantly posted at one place for decades. "We request the Governor to intervene into the matter so that equality could be maintained for everyone," sources added. |
