Sajad Lone with 2 seats wants to be Chief Minister | BJP trying to engineer split in PDP? | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 28: Speculations are rife that Bharatiya Janata Party may engineer a split in Peoples Democratic Party in Jammu and Kashmir to form the government. Sources told Early Times that BJP has roped in separatist turned mainstream politician Sajad Gani Lone for the job and has "assured" him that he would be given the coveted chair of Chief Minister if he succeeds in his endeavor. "National General Secretary of BJP Ram Madhav held a marathon meeting with Lone in Srinagar on Wednesday to discuss the option s which can explored and who all can be roped in to give new coalition minus Mehbooba Mufti a chance," sources revealed. It may be recalled that after the demise of the late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Mehbooba didn't agree to form the government for nearly three months. As the Mehbooba was taking her time at least eight to ten PDP MLAs had entered into secret talks with the BJP and were about to form the other faction of the party. This development had made Mehbooba give up her tough posture and go ahead with the government formation. After assuming charge Mehbooba had dropped a few ministers, who were a part of her father's cabinet, reportedly to "punish them." Insiders revealed that Sajad Lone has been assigned the job of restarting the process and see if the split could be engineered within the PDP. "Sajad Lone has got many friends in the PDP and he can negotiate a deal," they added. A PDP leader claimed that there is no chance about split in the party and their house is in order. "BJP seems to be day dreaming and is counting on the people who have no acceptance in the state. Isn't it a joke that Sajad Lone, who has just seats in his kitty, is eyeing Chief Minister's chair," the leader added. A BJP leader said that there are still three years left for present assembly's term to end and "what's wrong in exploring the options. Everyone knows that there is lot of resentment within the PDP and if their MLAs want to leave the party who can stop them. If they PDP leaders approach us with the requisite numbers we can think about forming the government again." However, the BJP leader ignored a question about Sajad Lone eyeing Chief Minister's chair. "It's too early to comment on it. Let's see how the situation unfurls," he added. |
