Green gold being felled illegally
Forest, Revenue deptts aiding land mafia in Reasi
7/20/2018 10:36:32 PM
Early Times Report
Reasi, July 20: Though frequent encroachments on forestland are a common phenomenon in Jammu and Kashmir, district Reasi stands in the frontline where such illegal activities are regular and happening under the very nose of the administration.
At Khodi Mod village nallah, concrete constructions have been taking place with the active involvement of the land mafia supported by the Forest department and aided by Revenue officials.
The Forest department at Pouni has been earlier also reported to be the prime nodal government institution at Pouni, Reasi which has been encouraging the illegal encroachment of the forestland at various places in the district.
But in Khodi Mod, nearly eight kilometres from Pouni, unabated constructions of houses has started and many pacca houses have been constructed at the spot.
The people of the area allege that it has been an open affair in Reasi district as encroachments are taking place and senior officials of both Revenue and Forest are in hand in glove with the land mafia that is active in the area.
"Over the years Reasi has been bearing the brunt of illegal felling of the green gold by various land mafias which have been supported by Forest guards and senior officials. Even the private land of the people have been encroached by these people with the Revenue officials manipulating the documents for them," said an elderly man from the village.
It is being alleged that the authorities have in past taken no serious action against the mafia that had enjoyed strong support in the erstwhile coalition government.
The residents of Bharakh, Khodi Mod have appealed to the Governor N N Vohra to intervene immediately in the unlawful activity taking place in the area and save the green gold by taking to task the corrupt Forest and Revenue officials.
