Fast track courts imperative for hearing rape cases : Legal luminaries
7/20/2018 11:17:25 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 20:Despite strict legislations against incidents of rape, it is pity that there has not been any drop in such cases which put humanity to shame and many believe that the inability of the system to deliver quick justice to victims is major reason behind this.
Case studies suggest that delay in delivery of justice has encouraged those with such criminal intentions and even strict legislations have failed to curb such elements.
Even though there has been huge public outcry against such incidents which shook the conscience of the nation, yet in the absence of fast track courts, timely justice has not been delivered to the victims.
Reiterating the need of setting up fast track courts, common people and legal luminaries repose their hope on establishment of such court for speedy dispensation of justice. Advocate Abhishek Dogra while bottom lining the need for setting up fast track courts for hearing cases of rape said, "Rape is most heinous crime in our society and in order to curb this act of savagery, it is imperative that courts with special jurisdiction are set up to deliver speedy justice to the victims and exemplary punishment to the offenders". Echoing his views, Advocate Kamal Magotra said that delay in dispensation of justice is major reason behind alarming rise in the incidents of rape despite stringent laws. "This can be checked only if these cases are heard in fast track courts and the offenders are brought to book in minimum possible time". Advocate Koushal Parihar while expressing his resentment and anguish over increase in these incidents in the society said that even as many state governments have come up with more tenacious laws on this heinous crime, yet it is of utmost importance that fast track courts are set up and these cases are heard in them so that maximum quantum of punishment is delivered to these savages at the earliest and justice is delivered to the victims.
