Now close relative of Muftis and PDP leader lobbies with rebels
7/20/2018 11:51:31 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, July 20: A senior leader of the Peoples Democratic Party and close relative of the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti has been lobbying with the rebel faction headed by Imran Reza Ansari.
Sources said the PDP leader, who hails from south Kashmir, is not only in contact with the rebels but has also developed a separate contact with separatist-leader-turned mainstream politician Sajjad Gani Lone, who is being as the prospective Chief Minister of the state.
Sources said the PDP leader who has been having strained relations with the party leadership including the Muftis, has been looking for avenues to "explore his full potential in politics."
It was reliably learnt that the PDP leader feels he has been deceived by the party leadership in the past around a year. "He has genuine grievances with the party. He was sidelined for no fault of his but only because of some other senior leaders who also happen to be her (Mehbooba's) relatives, spewed venom against him," said a PDP leader on the condition of anonymity.
Sources said the rebels are equally interested to get this close relative of the Muftis into their group. "His entry to the rebel group can prove a major setback to the PDP and so the rebels don't want to miss the opportunity but want to show the world that even her(Mehbooba's) relatives are joining them," said an insider close to the developments.
Sources said the PDP leader has been behaving smartly. "He has neither left the party nor joined the rebels but he is maintaining a contact with the rebels and this is enough to keep the party leadership unnerved," said a senior PDP leader.
It was reliably learnt that the former chief minster and the PDP President Mehbooba Mufti may soon hold a closed-door meeting with this relative.
"Basically she avoids discussing such party affairs with her relatives before others, so what we feel is that she will soon call a separate meeting to resolve the issues," said a PDP leader from south Kashmir.
The rebel group headed by Imran Reza Ansari is likely to throw weight behind Sajad Gani Lone as the Chief Minister of the state though a possible alliance with the BJP.
What has made the developments curious is that the BJP has not formally ruled out formation of any new alliance in the state. The scheduled visit of BJP point man on Kashmir, Ram Madhav to the state, in the coming days has only been adding to the suspense.
Despite repeated attempts the PDP leader couldn't be contacted for comments.
