KUPWARA, Apr 13: A woman delivered her baby in a cab after a hospital allegedly ignored her husband's plea for an ambulance in north Kashmir's Kupwara district. Mohammad Shafi Kohli of Sarkoli, Kalaroos told reporters that doctors at a local hospital had referred his pregnant wife to Kupwara District Hospital but refused to provide them an ambulance. "They asked me to take my wife there in a Sumo cab," he said, adding his wife delivered their baby on way to the healthcare facility. Kohli said that he brought his wife to Kalaroos hospital as she was in labour pain, and doctors told him that some tests were to be done here, after which they referred her to Kupwara hospital. "I insisted them to provide us an ambulance, but they (hospital authorities) didn't provide the facility to us and asked to get a Sumo or any other vehicle," he said, adding the ambulance was stationed there in the lawns of hospital. Just half kilometers away she delivered her baby in a cab, after which "we again took her to the same hospital where some nurses treated her." "We want government to take stern action against the hospital authorities," said Kohli. Pertinently, on January 19 this year, a woman from Mooree village of Kupwara district had delivered a dead baby on a road in Srinagar after the doctors on duty at Lal Ded (LD) Hospital had refused to admit her. |
