Human Resource Development Ministry releases rankings of Indian universities, colleges

NEW DELHI: The Human Resource Development Ministry recently released rankings of Indian universities and colleges. The National Institutional Ranking Framework data below gives a picture how the city fares out of 10 in 9 different categories–Colleges, Overall, Universities, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Law and Architecture.
In the list of top 10 colleges of the country, six are from Delhi. It includes Miranda House which is ranked at the first position followed by Hindu College at the second.
St Stephen’s Colleges at 4th, Lady Shri Ram College for Women at 5th, Shri Ram College of Commerce at 7th and Hans Raj College at 9th.
In Overall category, two Delhi institutes fared in top 10.
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi stood at the third rank, while Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) bagged the seventh position.
The third category in which top 100 Universities participated, only JNU ranked at the second position in top 10 list while Delhi University stood at 13th rank.
In top 10 Engineering colleges, only IIT Delhi secured the second position while in the top 10 Management institutes, only IIT could make it at the 9th position.
In top 10 Pharmacy, Jamia Hamdard bagged the first position.
While in top 10 Medical colleges and institutes–All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) secured the first rank followed by Institute of Liver and Billary Sciences at 9th.
Similarly in top 10 Law, two are from the city. National Law University ranked at second position while Jamia Milia Islamia at 8th.
Also, in top 10 architecture, School of Planning and Architecture stood at 4th rank while Jamia Milia Islamia at 8th position.
NIRF was introduced in September 2015 by the HRD ministry and this was the fourth year of rankings which were based on five parameters–Graduation Outcomes, Research and Professional Practice, Outreach and Inclusivity, Teaching, Learning and Resources and Perception.
