Despite HC ban; Illegal constructions go unabated in Pahalgam | | | Early Times Report
Pahalgam, Aug 2: Illegal constructions are going on in Pahalgam tourist resort despite a ban by the High Court, even as the authorities are acting as mute spectators. Many constructions are currently coming up and the authorities have failed to take any action. Reports say that the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) had granted permission to one Mst Zaina, of Frislana, Pahalgam for repairing her house vide letter No. CEO/PDA/BOCA/2048-49, dated 4/08/2018. Instead, husband of the applicant namely Abdul Aziz Hajam managed to construct a fresh house with the help of some influential persons having access to higher ups of the PDA. Hajam, in the garb of repairing the house, managed to raise a concrete structure and no official of PDA bothered to monitor the work, due to which Hajam. Reports said that many influential persons under the garb of repair work are flouting the directions and going for fresh structures. The PDA was not monitoring the repair work and violation of building permission norms. Reports further say that illegal constructions continue to thrive in the vicinities of Pahalgam. Locals of the area have appealed Governor administration for intervention and demanded tough action against the officials who have 'allowed' these illegal constructions in this ecologically fragile area. Locals blame the PDA for the continuing illegal construction. They alleged that with the support of authorities, several influential persons are carrying out construction work in blatant violation of High Court directions. What speaks volume about government inaction is that the constructions are going on in all areas notified and bought under the PDA. Notably, the High Court has imposed a blanket ban on constructions in Pahalgam till framing of new Master Plan. |
