Dilapidated roads, erratic power & water supply irk residents of Shanker Nagar | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 2: The residents of Shanker Nagar of Malik Market have been facing numerous civic issues including dilapidated roads, drains, erratic water supply and many more, which have been ignored by the concerned departments. Continuing his mass contact programme, Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times, who would be contesting upcoming assembly election as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency met the residents of Shanker Nagar and heard their problems. The road which leads to Shanker Nagar is in total dilapidated conditions due to which big potholes have developed. "There was a huge patch of road at the entry point of Shanker Nagar in dilapidated and a big pothole had become which hampered movement of vehicles into the area. We requested to the department as well as to the BJP leader Kavinder Gupta to repair it so that resident could get hassle free passage, he came here and inaugurated the work but work was never started ultimately all residents collected Rs 25000 and got it repaired," said Hiader Malik. The residents also highlighted the issue of street lights. "There is no street light in the area and some which are installed are defunct. Drains are blocked and never cleaned. The area despite being in Municipal Corporation Ward No 49, no cleaning is done here. At some places PDD cables are touching roof top of the house posing threat to life during rainy season," said Bishan Das, Arvind, Shakuntla. Raising the issue of erratic water supply, Madhu Bala, Paras Ram, Sudesh Devi, Sansar Chand and Parkash Sing said "The water supply remains off most of the days and when supply is released it stays for some time, inadequate for daily needs." "There is no proper road connectivity to the Shanker Nagar and the road which has been identified for this road has been encroached upon by the some private company and has got stay order on the land. We asked the concerned department to sort out the issue but nothing has been done so far due to which people are facing huge inconvenience," said Surjit Singh, Ajay Singh. "The roads in entire area are in bad condition and need blacktopping. Drains are clogged and remain unattended. The slab on the drain has been lying broken since 8 years and till date it has not been constructed, which restrict passage to the residents to get their houses," said Mintu, Bodh Raj Sharma. Nisha Sharma raised the issue of encroachment of road by the some residents in lane no. 7. "People have constructed stairs to first floor on the road illegally which hamper the passage to vehicles. Highlighting the issue of power crisis, Gurdeep Singh Lane No. 7 said "There is huge problem of power supply in our area. The transformer is of low capacity and the load is very high due to which fluctuation occurs affecting our electric and electronic appliances. The capacity of transformer is 63 kv while there are 200 houses," Decrying over her poverty, Bimla said that the roof of her house is in dilapidated condition and the plaster is getting off and there is threat of roof collapse. Due to poor financial condition, I cannot repair it. |
