Nothing is well in Shiv Colony Kunjwani, Shanker Colony Gangyal | Dilapidated roads, chocked drains and low voltage irk residents | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 2: The residents of Shiva Colony Kunjwani and Shankar Colony Gangyal have been denied the basic amenities as the dilapidated lanes, choked drains or no drains, low voltage supply besides defunct street lights are speaking volumes about the utter neglect of the areas by successive representatives. Editor of Early Times Munish Gupta, who has decided to contest as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar Assembly Constituency today continued his mass contact programme at Shiva Colony Kunjwani and Shankar Colony Gangyal, wherein he listened the grievances of the public. Jeet Singh, Sourav Sharma and Yash Choudhary expressed concern over low voltage problem in the area. "The transformer installed in the locality is of low capacity due to which the voltage remained very low, damaging the electrical appliances. During peak hours there are repeated curtailments of power along with low power voltage problem", they said, adding that despite repeatedly taking up the matter with concerned authorities nothing has been done. Pintu Kumari, Vishno Devi, Dinesh Singh, Subash Singh, Balwan Singh, William James castigated the authorities for the pathetic condition of the lanes. "For the last many years the lanes have not been constructed and potholes have been developed in almost all lanes of the locality. During rains the potholes gets filled up with water, which creates problems for the residents", they said, adding that in most of the lanes, either the drains have not been constructed, or those which were constructed years' back, were not repaired. "None of the sweeper came here to clean the drains while the existing drains have been choked at several places with filthy water accumulated in them, which led to breeding of insects", they said. Another resident claimed that they had taken up the matter with the leaders of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), who in turn asked to firstly organize a rally for them, after which the lane would be constructed. "It is their duty to construct the lanes and drains but they have been paying no heed towards our grievances", the resident said. Iqbal Singh of Lane Number 5 Shiva colony, Krishna Devi, Ajay Sharma, Ajay Kumar, RK Koul said that their lanes have not constructed by the authorities for the last many years. "Last year they had started construction but left it soon, after which none came here to construct the lane, which seems like a nullah", they said, adding that the drains have been constructed by locals on their own but none of the sweeper came here to clean the drains. Rama Rani, Ram Payari, Paramjit Kour, Suman Bala Gurmeeet Kour, Kirna Devi, Nisha Devi maintained that their names were deleted from the ration card some two years back. "Getting ration from government is right of every individual but our names have been deleted from the ration list and despite repeated requests, our names have not been entered into the ration list", they claimed, adding that they were poor people but none was paying any heed towards their issue. Shashi Devi claimed that a local named Raja had taken Rs. 1800 from her in lieu of giving LPG connection under centrally sponsored scheme but everyone had got the cylinders apart from her. Pritam Kashyap claimed that the streetlights of the area, have gone kaput for the last six months but were not replaced by the corporator. "Even we have been offering the LED lights and only want to get it replaced by someone but none had come so far to replace the same", Kashyap said. |
