Cong confused, discusses J&K situation without any representative from Jammu | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 2: While as whole nation is in a suspense over 'moves' to be taken by Union Government on Kashmir, top leadership of country's oldest party Congress is still groping in the dark. Instead of taking clear stand on prevailing situation, Congress is in a dilemma and most of the leaders are hesitating to give any clear statement. Today J&K Policy Planning Group of the Congress Party met under the Chairmanship of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister. Dr. Karan Singh, former Sadre Riyasat, Ghulam Nabi Azad, P. Chidambaram, Ambika Soni, Tariq Hamid Karra, Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Rigzing Zora, were present in the meeting. Interestingly there is no representative from Jammu in this group which discussed prevailing situation in the whole state. "There was deep concern expressed at the continuous reports emanating from both the Union Home Ministry and the State Government which were creating an atmosphere of panic and apprehension about the intentions of the government", party stated in a handout. The massive build-up of security forces, the curtailment of the Sri Amarnath Yatra, also the unprecedented advisories being issued to the tourists, yatris and other civilians, are all creating an atmosphere of heightened insecurity and fear. The Group urged the Government not to take any decision which would precipitate a deep crisis The Group also discussed the widespread fear and apprehension in the minds of the people across the State of J&K about Government's intentions of abolishing Articles 35-A and 370. They reiterated the considered policy of the Congress Party and asked the Government to maintain the constitutional guarantees given to the State of J&K. |
