Viral images expose LG Admin, put a question mark on Good governance claims
Dirty washrooms inside DC Office Ganderbal take internet by storm

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 28: The mismanagement, chaos, and bad governance were exposed brutally by the netizens on Monday when pictures of dilapidated washrooms inside the office premises of Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal were widely being circulated.
The pictures highlighted the shabby condition of the lavatories inundated with dirt, mud, and dust engulfing the already broken washbasins and Commode Chairs inside the DC office of Ganderbal. “This is the situation inside the DC office. Imagine what would be the condition at other places. Now let us imagine the fate of Swach Bharat Abhiyaan in Jammu and Kashmir,” wrote one netizen.
“Same position in all offices of Kashmir. Even at tourist places, one is ashamed to see these obnoxious lavatories,” wrote another netizen.
Even the former PWD minister Naeem Akhtar shared the pictures on his wall with the caption: “Please get them fixed.”
“This looks like some ungovernable place devoid of any human existence. Amid the hype given to unnecessary issues, the government would do well if it concentrates even on providing basic amenities to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Nowhere in the country are we witnessing such scenes of misgovernance. There is anarchy and pillage dominating the scenes all across. Corruption, nepotism, and favoritism are what the Jammu and Kashmir have become a hub of,” wrote another social media user while commenting on the pictures.
Repeated attempts, meanwhile, to contact DC administration Ganderbal for official comment didn’t fructify.
However, official, pleading anonymity said that the issue has been raised several times with the concerned quarters but no heed was paid to the issue. “The funds for the regular repairs are already there but the execution of the same is nowhere happening. The delay in execution of the works is what is acting as a spoilsport,” says the official.
Meanwhile, the pictures of the dilapidated condition of lavatories and washrooms are acting as a major embarrassment to the administration that otherwise has been claiming to have been making strenuous efforts in streamlining the governance and making the basic amenities available to the masses on priority. “The situation is pathetic anywhere and is not specific to Ganderbal only. Srinagar is no better. The main issue is that those at the helm believe in pomp and show. No concrete work is being done on the ground. The result of such a pathetic state of functioning is that people are suffering at large and there is no one to pay heed to their woes. This is the crux of everything we have around,” was how a social media user expressed his views on the viral images.
