Congress wants its pound of flesh | Sub-Committee Report | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 30: The National Conference has been told by the Congress that if it wants to have its consent on new administrative units, NC won't use it as political tool to take credit. The party had said it's for this reason only that it has suggested that the report should be discussed in the Cabinet first before making any announcement. "We have categorically told NC leadership and directed it to communicate to the Omar Abdullah that if any announcement is to be made, then it should be told as efforts of coalition Government rather than the solely of the NC, even if the coalition partners agree to part ways," said a Cong Minister. Congress has reservations that once the NC gets its consent and makes an announcement then Omar would look an excuse to part ways and then go on to sell that it was NC that made these new administrative units even after stiff opposition from the Cong.' Cong sources said that they had also communicated about their this apprehension to the party high command which had said that it will stand by any decision of the State unit. "NC has a history of using Cong to its advantage and then ditching us. Now this can't be repeated now," said a Cong source. The delay in announcement is also because of the apprehension of the Cong about the intent and sincerity of the NC. Party source said that NC is not interested in the welfare of the public but rather want a political tool to sell in the coming elections. "Why Omar was not so serious as he is now. First he set up Commission one year after coming in the office, then another two years were allowed to go . But now when elections are round the corner he is issuing threats and setting deadline. Had he been serious matter would have been resolved amicably earlier as then election pressure would not have been there. This speaks about his sincerity and which is the major concern of the Congress," said a senior Congress leader. |
