Sources in Health Department informed Early Times that nearly 50 specialist doctors were engaged by Health department under the scheme and their salaries were being paid from the funds provided by NRHM directorate to Director Health and Family Welfare. Moreover, nearly 100 specialist doctors, Paramedical employees, Female Multi Purpose Workers (FMPW) engaged in Non Communicable Diseases Programme (NCDP) and Integrated Diseases Surveillance Programme (IDSP) are also without salaries for the last around 10 months. "Ever since we joined the department, we are getting salaries in installments as the NRHM and Health department have seemingly turned bankrupt. We have got the salary of November 2013 few months back", a specialist doctor engaged under NRHM said, adding that salaries of last around 10 months was pending while some have pending salaries of seven months. He further added that whenever they asked for salaries to concerned officers of hospitals, they expressed helplessness and gave excuses of dearth of funds/grants sanctioned by NRHM to Health department. The specialist doctors further said that the specialist doctors engaged in other states have been getting regular wages. "Moreover their salary has been revised from Rs. 48,000 per month to above Rs. 60,000, but in Jammu we are still getting Rs. 48,000 per month and that too intermittently", he rued. The doctors said that already the doctors dithered to opt for NRHM job after retirement, as in private practice handsome amount was earned. "If the attitude of Government would remain as it is, the NRHM will fail in state", they said. Criticizing the Health department and NRHM authorities, an employee said that it had been becoming impossible for them to arrange bread and butter for their families in absence of salaries. An official in Health department, who was not authorized to talk media, pleading anonymity said that they were not getting funds from the NRHM, so the salaries were not regularly paid to the employees. He further said that once the funds would be given, the salaries would be paid. Mission Director NRHM Dr. Yashpal Sharma didn't pick up the phone despite repeated calls, while the phone of Director Health PS Pathania was switched off. |
