Vakil Resigns from Party Post, Terms Mir as 'Tainted' | Mir adds to Congress woes in JK | |
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Mar 3: The woes of state unit of the Congress have not ended with the appointment of GA Mir as the new president replacing Saif-ud-Din Soz. Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil Tuesday resigned from his party post as a mark of protest against GA Mir's appointment as the new state president. Describing the appointment as "an unfortunate event" and a "black day" for the J&K Congress party, Vakil according to a statement forwarded his resignation to Sonia Gandhi. "Installation of a tainted and junior most person, who has never held any post in the party's organizational setup is beyond acceptance and recognition," Vakil said. Vakil said the decision was unjustified and undemocratic as no senior party leader was consulted. The former Minister said that despite having the services of experienced, capable, dynamic especially untainted leaders at the disposal of the leadership, this type of revamping by high command which solely glorifies a tainted person possessing questionable and dubious credentials is regrettable and objectionable at first instance. Vakil said party high command at this crucial juncture, when party is facing multiple challenges, has to acknowledge the negative repercussions of this grave decision and proceed for its early reconsideration and revocation otherwise Congress party in the State will remain confined to papers. "If Sonia Gandhi failed to address the issue appropriately at earliest," Vakil added, "it will be disastrous for the party and I will have no other option but to choose future course of action after holding consultation with my colleagues and supporters." Pertinent to mention Mir was named in the infamous sex scandal.
