Baffled BJP make conflicting statements on Masrat's release, Jammu irked | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 8: The baffled Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) seems to be in a fix as to what line to toe on the release of Masrat Alam, the perpetrator of 2010 Kashmir unrest that witnessed the killing of 120 youth in valley. Its president and MP Jugal Kshore Sharma first termed the event as unfortunate saying that the coalition government did not take BJP in confidence before releasing the terror mastermind. However immediately after the party's core committee meeting, the president took a U-turn and aid that the coalition government would last full six years term and government is under no threat from such incidents. Earlier speaking to media, the president had said that such initiatives should be combined decisions of the coalition government and no party should take any decision in isolation, particularly those pertaining to the sensitive issues. " If such decisions keep on coming unilaterally in future, this can lead to fissures in the coalition and harm the government," Sharma had said while talking to media adding that Peoples Democratic Party did not took BJP in confidence before releasing Masrat Alam. Later after the BJP meet, Jugal posed as a cool commentator for the incidence saying that coalition government is poised to run full six years term and government is under no threat from the release of Masrat. "Our three legislators are in the valley and as soon as they come back, dialogue would be initiated with PDP leaders on this account laying emphasis that BJP should be taken into consideration before taking any sensitive decisions. The BJP president's conflicting statement however has drawn Jammu peoples' ire who are of lament that after conceding defeat to PDP on many issues including Art 370, delimitation of assembly constituencies, withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act(AFSPA), BJP has lost its ground, obviously, in lust of power. "As soon as the coalition was formed and chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed showered praise on Pakistan and terrorists for helping in state assembly elections and BJP went into silent mode, it gave a clear indication that the party has just come into the governance lusting for power only and conceding its ideology to separatist mindset of the valley," said Maneesh Gupta, a software engineer in Jammu East constituency. He said BJP has proved anti-Jammu party since its coronation in the government. It is pertinent to mention here that none of the cabinet minister or MoS from BJP has reacted to such statements and incidents happened over the week of the government formation as they seem nonchalant to everything happening in the government except to gluing themselves in their secretariat office chairs. Its fringe leaders, however have shown some teeth on these developments, but its senior leaders keeping mum has added to the insult. " The irony compounds for Jammuites as even its deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh too is in mute mode whose name for the post was well announced in time alongwith chief minister Mufti' name when coalition government was in its making," mocked Arun Singh, 35, a fruit vendor at Bus stand. Masrat Alam, tagged as a mastermind of stone pelting in 2010 riots was languishing in jail and was released by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed yesterday. Masrat was charged with killing of 120 youth who died during the stone pelting in Kashmir riots in 2010. |
