Bhim Singh's Jammu bandh call draws flak | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 8: Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) led by Prof Bhim Singh, which failed to open its account in the recent assembly polls has called for a 2-day shutdown starting fromSunday in Jammu region and is seeking the dismissal of the Mufti Sayeed led government in JK over the release of top separatist Masarat Alam Bhat. The party has woken up from a deep slumber after losing the recent elections and wants to be in news somehow. Mufti government releasing Alam has provided JKNPP with a chance to play politics and to remain relevant in the state politics. "It seems the JKNPP is least bothered about the common people and wants them to suffer by calling for a bandh. It's a ploy to be in news and nothing more. Prof Singh has forgotten that JKNPP was a part of a coalition headed by Mufti in 2002 and one of its leaders Harsh Dev Singh held all important portfolio of Education Minister. When JKNPP was a part of the government many separatists were released but Prof Singh never called for a shutdown in Jammu," said an expert. He said that JKNPP is making desperate attempts to strike a chord with Jammu people to gain its lost ground but it needs to realize that calling for shutdown is not going to help its cause. "We have called a two-day bandh from today over the decision of the state government… It is a decision against the nation, how can BJP now call itself a nationalist (party)," JKNPP patron Bhim Singh said Sunday. Hitting out at the BJP partnered alliance for resorting to "divisive" decision and statements, he said "BJP needs to explain its stand as people have been causing aspersion on their government's decisions". "Masarat is not a political prisoner. He was involved in the stone pelting agitation directed against the country. How can the BJP-partnered government release him?" he said. "It looks like that Prof Singh believes that memory of the people is short lived and they are not aware about his activities. Prof Singh has been fighting the cases of dreaded terrorists in the Supreme Court and has managed to get many anti-national elements released. If he is so much concerned about nation's security he should first stop fighting the cases of terrorists and then give sermons," opined an analyst. Prof Singh should realize that shutdowns hit a common man who struggles from morning to evening to make his ends meet and then feed his family. "Everybody is not a VIP like Mr Singh," said a businessman. |
