Jammu, Mar 8: Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) today celebrated International Womens's Day in its office at Talab Tillo. Prof. Neeru Sharma, Director, Centre for Women Studies, University was the chief guest on the occasion. In her speech, she appreciated the efforts of IETE for celebrating this event. She said, "All around the world, International Women's Day represents an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality. She also laid stress on many women related issues based on this years theme, "Empowering Women - Empowering Humanity" which envisions a world where each woman and girl can exercise her choices, such as participating in politics, getting an education, having an income, and living in societies free from violence and discrimination. Earlier, Dr. Rakesh Vaid, Chaiman IETE, Jammu Centre introduced the audience to IETE and its activities. In his welcome address he stressed the need of such awareness programmes and activities besides formal education. It is pertinent to mention here that IETE is India's recognized professional society devoted to the advancement of Science, Technology, Electronics, Telecom and Information technology. It was founded in 1953 and has more than 69000 members through 61 centres/ sub-centres located in India and three abroad. |
