Jammu, Mar 8: With focus on motivation of young students to think and act to preserve lesser known tree heritage by way of College Tree Talk Parks, University of Jammu today hosted 337thTree Talk. According to press release, elaborating the concept of College Tree Talk Parks , O P Sharma highlighted that trees linked to Indian culture and folk traditions need to be planted in coming monsoon times and students encouraged to interpret trees in traditional and modern context. Saptparna or Scholar Tree has contributed by way of wooden blackboards in earlier days so named as Indian Blackboard tree or Indian Scholar Tree .Tree bark finds use in anti malarial drug AYUSH-64 and commonly planted as roadside shady tree. Likewise Putranjivak or Jiyopota is another tree whose fruits made into amulets to protect child from evil eyes, seeds storehouse of phytochemicals recommended to pregnant ladies to have safe conception especially useful in threatened pregnacy. The Parijat or Harshangar is Night flowering Jasmine and found in Jammu forests like Manda ,Nandani,Samba ,Katra ,Ramnagar ,its flowers emit pleasing fragrance during night and are shed before sunrise ,tree as per Hindu mythology appeared during churing of the ocean and taken to Devlok. Prominent Environmental Sciences University and College teachers namely Dr Deepika ,Tahira Firdaus ,Pinky Manhas ,Dr Vikas Sharma ,Yaseen Sirwal ,Harjit Kaur,Dr Rajwant ,Dr Yashpal Singh ,Shalini Aryan and Apoorva Sharma shared inputs on Shivalik trees.
