BARAMULLA, May 20: A person introducing himself as a field officer in the Handicrafts department has duped dozens of people in north Kashmir by promising government job. Reports said the man had introduced himself as Parvaiz Qureshi from the Handicrafts department and had claimed that he was assigned to train girls from rural areas of the region. He had told the guillible girls that 10th pass girls would be paid an honorarium of Rs 1000, 12th pass Rs 1500 and Rs 2000 for graduates. Muneera Bano, daughter of Wazir Mohammad, of Raben, Sopore said the man looked around 50-year-old, spotted a beard and often quoted religion while speaking. "Due to unemployment we thought to earn our bread and butter in a decent way. I motivated many girls to avail the benefits of the so-called scheme. With the passage of time many girls turned to our centers to get training in pashmina, sozni, embroidery, knitting and other soft skill courses. The man had promised that he will provide us with government job," said Muneera. Another girl Shaheena (name changed) said the fraduster showed an identity card mentioning his name as Parvaiz Qureshi of Tulsi Bagh, working as field officer in the department of Handicrafts. "He took our ration card, election card, Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) and academic certificates. He said that he will accordingly adjust us either in the department of Handicrafts or Industries," another girl said. She said the man also visited her house and told her father that he wanted a job for her, they will have to pay Rs 3 lakhs. "My father managed Rs 1. 50 lakh and was ready to give him. But he put a condition before the man and asked him give us an appointment order and take the money." It may be mentioned that at least 125 handicraft centres were opened across north Kashmir especially in Rafiabad, Pattan, Tangmarag, Baramulla, Sopore and Bandipora. |
