| Difficult days ahead for BJP | | Different Jammu | | Early Times Report
jammu, May 20: Things in Jammu region have changed and changed dramatically and on expected lines. Many developments have unfolded in Jammu after March 1, 2015, when the BJP for the first time became part of the state's power structure. The BJP could have made an optimum use of the opportunity it got because of the Jammu's massive support to it, but it squandered the opportunity in a most shameful manner. In fact, it started its inning even before it had lost the game in the state for all the times to come.
The case in point is the agenda of alliance it approved. The agenda contained everything that could unsettle the settled in the state, mar the interests of the minorities, injure the interests of all types of refugees and promote the Pakistani interests in the state and give legitimacy to the politics of secessionism and sectarianism in Kashmir. The BJP approved the agenda around February 25 and indicated what it was up to. The agenda of alliance was a negation of what Shyama Prasad Mookerjee stood for and fought for and for which he sacrificed his precious life in Jammu & Kashmir itself. "The BJP is lynching, murdering and abusing the martyr Mookerjee on a daily basis," the people are lamenting, adding that the "BJP has turned out to be an evil and a curse" and that "the BJP, if it remains in power for some more days, would cause an irreparable damage not only to the people of the state but also the nation".
It is for the first time in last 67 years that the people across the Jammu region are questioning the very credentials of the BJP. They have, it seems, made up their mind to get rid of the BJP and look towards another credible, dependable and nationalist alternative. It was also for the first time in 67 years that the people of Jammu region organized a bandh across the region on April 24 against the BJP. It was also for the first time that an all-party meeting was held on May 19 against the BJP. The meeting was described as "historic". It was also for the first time that women of Jammu tried to gherao any BJP leader and offer bangles to him and other BJP lawmakers. It was also for the first time that the BJP leaders were dubbed as "Kashmiri agents" and "mitti ke madho". It was also for the first time that all the BJP lawmakers were denounced as "Jaichands of Jammu". Again, it was also for the first time that the BJP failed to counter the opposition's onslaught.
It would be also for the first time that the Jammu region would witness a relentless anti-BJP campaign. The all-party meeting that took place within the premises of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court and what transpired in the meeting did suggest that the BJP was in a big trouble. Those who participated in the meeting gave three-day notice to the BJP to change its attitude towards Jammu failing which it should prepare itself for the serious consequences. This was the message to the BJP from the High Court. |
