Mir enters into truce with third front, assures inclusion of dissidents in PCC | | | ET Report jammu, May 20: In bid to pacify the voices of dissidence in the State unit of Congress, the PCC president G A Mir has entered into a temporary truce with the third front, which had raised a banner of revolt in protest against alleged sidelining of the senior leaders in the organization. According to the sources, Mir has agreed to accommodate the third front leaders suitably in the Pradesh Congress Committee and District bodies after July 18 and in reciprocation, the dissidents have also assured to support the president for the time being. The verbal agreement was reached out after a marathon meeting between the PCC president and dissident leaders at Hotel Jhelum Resorts on Monday evening. Among the dissidents, who attended the meeting, included Gulchain Singh Charak, Janak Raj Gupta, Hari Singh Thakur, Jugal Kishore Sharma, R S Chib and others while Mir preferred to come alone for a direct dialogue with the third front. After listening to the grievances and complaints of the dissidents, Mir said that the party high command has given him a free hand to deal with the organizational affairs but he would prefer to keep everyone on the board. Seeking cooperation of each and every Congressman to strengthen the party, the PCC president at the same time, while referring to Gulchain Singh Charak, made it clear that no one with long moustaches or big tummy could scare him. The PCC president asked the dissidents to submit him a list of deserving persons, who should be accommodated in the PCC and district bodies. He said that a favourable decision would be taken on inclusion of more persons in the PCC after June 18 and the dissident should avoid their rebel activities till then, sources informed. Accepting the offer, sources said that the dissidents also agreed for a temporary truce and join the party official functions till PCC is reviewed in near future. However, they also warned that any disciplinary action against any members of the third front would be amounted to violation of the agreement and PCC chief will be responsible for the same. |
