srinagar, June 10: The upper reaches, including famed health resort of Pahalgam, were lashed by heavy rain since early this morning while it was cloudy with drop in the mercury in the plains, including summer capital, Srinagar, where rainfall started this afternoon. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon there could be isolated rain in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours as a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) has hit the region. Isolated rain will continue till Saturday and on Sunday there could be scattered rain or thundershowers, he said. After witnessing strong winds last night which resulted in drop in the minimum temperature, people woke up to a cloudy morning in the valley. It was raining heavily at Pahalgam since early this morning, a hotel owner told over phone. However, he said since there are dark clouds it was not immediately clear whether the upper heights had received fresh snowfall. He said the minimum temperature witnessed a drop in the health resort, where large number of tourists were out to enjoy the rain.Against yesterday's 8.6 degree minimum temperature, it was 7.4 degree, a notch below normal.It started raining at world famous ski resort of Gulmarg this afternoon after cloudy weather since early this morning, Gandola Cabe Car (GCC) project official told UNI. However, he said both phasesKongdori and Affarwat--, highest skiing point connected by GCC are working.But, he said, we have stopped issuing tickets for second phase of Affarwat this afternoon as a precautionary measure as sky was covered under dark clouds. However, if weather improves tickets for second phase will be issued again, he said.Met spokesman said despite receiving 6 mm rainfall during the night, the minimum witnessed increase by two degrees. Against yesterday's 6.8 degree, it was 8. 5 degree, half a notch above normal.Frontier district of Kupwara and other north Kashmir areas also received heavy rain since this morning disrupting normal life and resulting in cold.He said against yesterday's minimum temperature of 11.8 degree, It was 12.8 degree at Kupwara, a notch above normal. After cloudy weather since morning, it started raining in the summer capital, Srinagar this afternoon after weather remained mainly dry during the past two days. Spokesman said against the minimum temperature of 15.5 degrees, it was 14. 5 degrees, still half a notch above normal in the city, where strong winds disrupted power supply last night for several hours, particularly in the uptown, including Budshah Nagar, Natipora, Azad Basti and Pamposh colony because of damaged electric poles. The maximum temperature in the city was recorded 27.8 degrees, more than a degree below normal yesterday.He said the sky could be partly cloudy with thundery development and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 29 degrees and 15 degrees respectively in the city during the next 24 hours. He said at Leh the minimum temperature was 10.8 degrees against yesterdays 8. 3 degrees while temperature of border town of Kargil was not available.He said the sky would be mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 23 degrees and 8 degrees respectively at Leh.There will be no relief for Jammu though the sky would be partly cloudy tomorrow, he said adding the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 41 degrees and 25 degrees respectively. |
