Govt likely to release report on 'incorrect' flood loss assessment by Omar Govt | | | Early Times Report Jammu, June 10: The state government is likely to bring out a paper on the "irregularities" committed in making assessment of the loss caused by the floods in last year by the former government. The paper will give the details of the actual losses, their estimates and how these were 'exaggerated' and how it was made on 'flimsy' ground without going through the actual sites of the losses and getting them registered, a senior govenrment officia said. "Omar Abdullah and his team is constantly making false claims that government is not serious in the giving financial assistance to the flood affected people. Now, we will let the people know who is to be blamed for it. It's the wrong report which is delaying the finances. It was prepared in a shoddy manner and was rejected on the first hand by the finance ministry," the official said. Official sources said this shoddy ground work done by the Omar Abdullah government is the reason for delay in the release of the funds. "The money just drops in from the finance minister at whims and fancies of the state. The losses are assessed and reassessed as per the norms and estimates arrived at. Had Omar been serious and not keen on flying in chopper during floods, this situation wouldn't have arrived. His government first left the state finances dry and now this liability is also being faced," the official said. The state government especially the BJP is also keen for the earlier release of the adequate funds to be available for the flood affected families. The ministers of the BJP have also taken up the matter with the finance minister Arun Jaitely who has assured that a considerate view will be taken in releasing the funds. Sources said that on the direction of the finance minister senior officials are arriving to make a final assessment and funds will be released accordingly. |
