| MLC appoints agents to lure candidates | | BJP party posts on sale in Kashmir | | Fazal Khan

SRINAGAR, June 10: A few leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have started hoodwinking people by selling party posts in Kashmir region.
Sources told Early Times a senior BJP leader, who is also an MLC, has asked his close aides to rope in a few wealthy people who are interested in joining BJP. " The agents appointed by the BJP MLC have identified a few prominent businessmen in Kashmir and have told them that if they are able to spend some money they would be appointed as party bearers of the BJP in Kashmir," said a source.
The BJP leader in question had taken lot of money from the BJP high command to arrange the participants for the rally of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Srinagar. "The leader had assured the party leadership that he would ensure that venue of the PM's rally would be full. Despite taking huge finances from the BJP's central leadership the MLC failed to accomplish the job and had to cut a sorry figure. It was only after the intervention of a few friends of BJP, people were mobilized and the Prime Minister could address a decent gathering in Srinagar," the source added.
He said despite the leader taking party for a ride on many occasions, he was rewarded with a MLC berth. "Now the same leader is trying to make some quick bucks by claiming that he has been authorized by the party leadership to select the office bearers," the source claimed.
He said the BJP MLC's endeavor came to fore recently when one of the candidates, who was assured the party post, approached a senior leader in Srinagar and informed him that he (candidate) would very soon be appointed as the BJP General Secretary. "First he refused to divulge who could be he so sure about BJP appointing him as the party bearer but after sometime he spilled the beans and told the BJP leader that he has been assured by a top BJP leader and he just has to pay a few lakhs to get a powerful post in the party especially in the Kashmir region where party has not many prominent faces," the BJP leader said.
Sources said the BJP leaders in Kashmir have taken a serious note of the MLC's "false propaganda" and have decided to inform the BJP central leadership about the issue. "Such people can ruin the party's image. We have to ensure that MLC's wings are clipped. There is no such culture in BJP through which party positions are sold," said a BJP leader.
A BJP insider said that it's unfortunate that a few people are hell bent upon ruining the party's image. "It seems power has made the corrupt and they are trying their best to reap the benefits of power," he added.
Pertinently, BJP ministers and leaders have been hogging the headlines for wrong reasons since the day they have come into power. BJP high command, according to the sources, has take a serious note of the shortcomings and the allegations which are being leveled against the party state leaders. "Many party ministers and office bearers are under scanner and may face axe in the near future," sources added. |
