Aadhaar enrollment slow in Kishtwar | | | Asif Iqbal Naik
Early Times Report
Kishtwar, June 10: People of Kishtwar are fuming over the slow process of enrollment of Aadhaar, a flagship scheme of government of India. While talking to Early Times, many people who had arrived at the Permanent Enrollment Centre, New DC Office Complex, said that due to the slow process they were forced to wait for hours and in some cases wait for days for completion of Aadhaar enrollment. They blamed the officials working at the enrollment centre for delay and added that the computer system installed at the centre is outdated. They said that electricity failure also hit the process of new enrollment. "I am working in a private company at Himachal Pradesh and extended my leave. I am visiting this centre for last three days and I found that either the system is hanged or there is no electricity," said Rajinder Parihar. He said that it is the duty of the caretakers of centre to arrange generators for smooth functioning of the camp and provide better quality and well equipped computers to its staff working in the Aadhaar enrollment centre so that the public does not suffer. A woman who had arrived at the centre along with her daughter and other family members said that they were visiting the place for last four days, but had to return home disappointed. Another woman who said she required the Aadhaar card for availing the benefit of LPG subsidy had to wait for hours together along with her minor kids before she got a chance to enroll herself. "Me and my husband are poor and illiterate. We cannot afford to reach Kishtwar everyday. I am waiting for last 6 hours and me and my husband are not sure whether we get our self enrolled today or not," she said. She said that when the team arrived in her village for enrollment, her family was neither informed about it nor anyone guided her about the benefits and importance of enrollment under this scheme. When asked about the slow process of enrollment of Aadhaar card and lack of proper facility at the centre, in charge of the centre Shahid Hussain blamed administration. He said that it is duty and the responsibility of the administration to provide uninterrupted electricity to enrollment centre. He refuted allegations that slow and outdated computers were provided to the staff. He said that the enrollment process is going on smoothly and the hurdle in enrollment process was only due to snapping of electricity supply. He claimed that over one lakh people have been enrolled for Aadhaar in Kishtwar district since the launch of the scheme. |
