Early Times report JAMMU, June 10: The Central University of Jammu (CUJ) has finally ordered an inquiry into embezzlement and irregularities which were highlighted by the Early Times recently. The varsity authorities have constituted a four-member committee to look into the embezzlement and irregularities which have taken place since the university was established. "The committee comprising four members, three from CUJ and one outsider, was constituted few days ago by the Vice Chancellor Prof Ashok Aima. The committee will conduct inquiry into appointment of architecture and faculty, and purchases made," sources said. They said said the inquiry was ordered to prevent university's image from further damages. "The university will hold court meeting under the chairmanship of Governor NN Vohra, who is also chancellor of the university," they said. Earlier, the University Grants Commission (UGC) had warned CUJ's authorities against their delay in sending a satisfactory reply on the complaint of corruption in construction works going on in main campus at village Bagla in district Samba. "The UGC had threatened to initiate an enquiry on their own if CUJ authorities would not send a satisfactory reply over a complaint of corruption and embezzlement in the construction," said the sources. They added that the former VC and his 'blue eyed' officials, who were allegedly hand in glove with the persons executing construction works, had tried to evade queries by sending a vague reply, but UGC took a serious view of it and shot another letter to CUJ authorities. It pertinent to mention here that Early Times has highlighted various irregularities and embezzlement in the university, following which the CUJ administration has ordered the inquiry. |
