Contractors v/s Govt tussle goes on, R&B Min hints calling contractors from outside | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 10: Days after the state government sought three years maintenance guarantee of roads from the contractors, the tussle between the contractors and government continues and on Wednesday government sources said that though the contractors have agreed to it but they want higher prices for the works which are unacceptable to the government. At the same time government indicated that it has kept its card open and may go for contractors from other than state. R&B Minister Altaf Bukhari said that aiming to providing better roads it was decided by the government to seek three years maintenance guarantee from contractors. "The contractors from within state have accepted it but prescribing much higher bid prices which the government is not going to agree them. "We (govt) have told them that we want good quality roads but at comparatively low prices," he said. He however warned if need arises the government will open the tenders to open to all i.e. in which the contractors from outside the State too can participate. "See first it was done by those contractors who have the macadam plants. But now when they are charging more than double the government has no option left other than to invite tenders from contractors from other states at competitive prices ," he said. R&B Minister said that maintenance of roads has been a big challenge for Government in the state particularly in Kashmir where precipitation continues almost throughout the year. It is to mention here that a vast network of roads is in shambles across Kashmir, which was hit by a devastating flood last year. The Government is facing lot of criticism for delaying repair and reconstruction of roads. |
