Civil Sectt employees allege nexus between Estates deptt, hoteliers

SRINAGAR, June 15: Hundreds of employees of Civil Secretariat under the banner of NGCSEU held protests today against estates department for non-accommodation and facilities of its employees in government quarters.
The employees alleged that there is a nexus between Estates Department and Hoteliers according to which the department is earning hefty amount of money from hoteliers as the government quarters for Civil Secretariat employees are allotted to blue eyed persons.
Sources wishing anonymity told Early Times that every year huge amount of money is being spent on the accommodation of Darbar move employees which is misused by the top government officials in the department.
"We want our share vide order no 169 of 2004. Many government quarters were allotted to Civil Secretariat employees, but the Estates Department throwing norms to winds is not following the norms laid down by the estates department thus leaving the employees high and dry," said sources.
A group of employees said that they we were compelled to hold protests against the estates department for not addressing their problems at the earliest so that employees of far flung areas will not suffer at large.
Hundreds of employees under the banner of NGCSEU held protests today against estates department for non accommodation and facilities of its employees in government quarters, said employees.
"Around 700 to 900 government employees working with move offices of civil secretariat are being adjusted in at least 100 private hotels hired by the Estates department in the summer capital of the state. I am paying Rs 5000 for one room at Dalgate. There are hundreds of employees who are paying huge sum of money to the hired hoteliers per month," said an employee.
President Non Gazetted Civil Secretariat Employees Union (NGCSEU) Ghulam Rasool told Early Times that government quarters lack basic facilities like water, electricity, lavatory, furnishing, repairing and employees are facing other problems too which are not acceptable at all.
"Without following rules and procedures, Director Estates are issuing government orders with regards to accommodation as per his wish and choice. Whereas there is a nexus between Estates department and Hoteliers and that is why quarters are being issued to influence people," said President.
