Terrified separatists join hands | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 15: Unidentified gunmen turning their guns towards former militants and separatists have created ripples in their camps, in a significant development on Monday, after gunmen shot dead one more person in north Kashmir's Sopore area, terrified separatists joined hands and issued a joint shutdown call against these killings. The Hurriyat Conferences led by the hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani, another faction led by moderate Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and former militant turned self styled preacher of non-violence Mohammad Yasin Malik, who heads Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), issued a joint statement this evening calling for a shutdown on Wednesday against these killings. A joint statement issued by these separatist groups, who otherwise don't even tolerate sitting in one room with each other, said: "After joint consultation with regard to the serious situation arising due to the continuous cold blooded murder of innocent civilians in Sopore district, All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, and Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front have appealed to people across Jammu and Kashmir to observe complete strike on Wednesday, 17 June, 2015 to protest these gruesome killings. It was further decided ,that on Friday June 19th pro freedom leadership including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mohammad Yaseen Malik would visit Sopore to express solidarity with the resilient people of Sopore and jointly lead a protest rally against these gruesome killings." Killings seem to have terrified the separatists. A few days ago little known militant outfit Lashkar-e-Islam had asked the separatists, including Geelani, Mirwaiz, Malik and others to stay away from the funerals of militants and stop meddling into the affairs of the gunmen. "To save their own skin separatists are putting up a united face hoping that it may save them from the wart of gunmen who are on killing spree and have unleashed terror in Sopore," said an analyst. He said, "History stands testimony to the fact that so-called separatists have always tread different paths and have refrained from joining hands with each other. Now they are fearing for their lives and have put up a united face. They seem to be in a tizzy as the gun which they had brought from Pakistan to kill others looks like has turned towards them and it can have far reaching consequences." |
