Hundreds of kanals of Shamlat land encroached in Akhnoor, deptt succumbs to political affluence

JAMMU, June 15: Notwithstanding the fact that the Revenue department itself has revealed that several hundred Kanals of "Shamlat land" is encroached in merely two panchayats of tehsil Akhnoor, no action has been taken against the land grabbers, despite explicit directions from court.
In response to an RTI application filed by Sunil Kumar Sharma, the tehsildar office Akhnoor according to OQ/RTI/2015-03, has revealed that in panchayat Gandharwan and Panchayat Kotli-Tanda, several hundred Kanals of Shamlat land has been encroached by several people, enjoying strong political affluence.
In the RTI reply, the tehsildar office Akhnoor revealed that under Khasra number 931 and 512, which fall under both the above said panchayats, a person namely Krishan Pal Singh son of Diwan Singh has encroached upon several Kanals of land.
"In Khasra number 931 K.P Singh and brothers have encroached upon 26 Kanals and 10 Marlas land besides 238 Kanals and 10 Marlas more land is encroached by the same family", RTI activist said, while displaying RTI reply.
RTI activist Sharma, informed Early Times that there was nearly 4000 Kanals of Shamlat and Kacharai land in both the panchayats but same has been encroached by the land grabbers but so far no action has been taken.
He further alleged that efforts to encroach the remaining Shamlat land were as several cemented structured have either been raised or being raised by the land grabbers against which he had personally approached Tehsildar Akhnoor but all in vain. "It is the criminal silence of tehsil administration, which is helping the land grabbers to encroach due to which the Shamlat and Ghascharai land has becoming personal property of several influential people", he alleged.
Sharma further appealed Deputy Commissioner Jammu to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the complete mess and loot of government land in tehsil Akhnoor by the nexus of politicians-bureaucrats and land grabbers.
He further alleged that he was also getting life threats from the land grabbers-enjoying political patronage, whose interests have been badly hit by the reply of his RTI applications.
Tehsildar Akhnoor, Gopal Sharma said that he had recently joined the office and could only reply tomorrow, if there was any land grabbing by any family.
SDM Akhnoor, Suresh Chander Sharma said that during every monthly review meetings, he has been taking stock of all such cases of land grabbing, if there would be.
He assured that after getting enquired about the case from Tehsildar, he would take action, if there would be any violation. He also said that the efforts to encroach upon Shamlat or Ghascharia would not be tolerated at any cost and strict action would be taken against encroachers, as there were also explicit directions from court.
