| Pahari Community students deprived of scholarships for last session till now | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, June 15: Although the Government schools have been closed for summer vacations yet the students belong to Pahari Community have not received scholarships for the last academic session. Ironically the students belonging to the Pahari community mostly hailing from Below Poverty Line (BPL) category and are dependent upon the scholarships for their new admissions, uniforms, etc yet are in doldrums for their news uniforms and others academic fee/charges in the lack of non disbursement of scholarship. Many among these students also are the inmates in Pahari hostels where they are getting free education, uniforms, books, lodging and food. "Except for 2014, we were getting regular scholarship from the authorities concerned that helped us in carrying our studies smoothly including of purchasing books, uniforms etc, lamented one Rupali a student of Sunderbani tehsi adding, "no money was transferred into our accounts till today which has created many problems for all of us." Irked over prolonged pending of dues, she and many other students alongwith their parents have threatened to launch an agitation if the scholarship was not released soon. When contacted OP Sharma, Principal Govt Higher Secondary School said that school authorities have already intimated the concerned authorities and bills for the same have already been sent to treasury officer. "But the authorities have not transferred the scholarship money into the accounts of the student till today" said OP Sharma. Showing his helplessness in the matter, Treasury Officer also said that they are getting about Rs 45 lakh every year in the account of scholarship head but the same has not been sent for the last academic year and we can't withdraw money from other heads for the same. |
