SRINAGAR, June 15: More than 140 people had a narrow escape when a tyre of an Air India flight burst while the plane was landing at the Srinagar airport on Monday. The incident led to cancellation of at least 17 flights of various airlines. The tyre of the flight AI-821, which had come from Jammu, burst when it came in contact with the tarred runway at Srinagar International Airport, officials said. "Air India fight AI-821 suffered a tyre burst on landing at Srinagar today. The flight had 149 passengers on board. All passengers are safe," Air India said in a statement. The plane has been stuck on the runway, which has also been damaged, prompting authorities to temporarily halt operations at the airport. "Air India is working to clear the runway at the earliest," the airline said. Srinagar Airport authorities could not say when airport operations will be resumed. "We are working to make the runway functional. But as of now, it cannot be said as to when the operations would resume," an airport official said. |
