Cong finds common cause with separatists in opposing anti encroachment drive: BJP | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 15: JP has strongly taken on Congress and separatists for opposing the anti encroachment drive launched by Forest Department in the State to free the forest land from the clutches of mafia and restore the same to State. Taking serious exception to oft repeated statements of Congress and protests launched by the Party against the anti encroachment drive launched by Forest Department in the State on the directives of Minister of Forests and Environment and Social Welfare Bali Bhagat, BJP today said that the Party is trying to give a communal tinge to the issue and trying to have a common cause with separatists. The Party said that the Congress which during its rule failed to protect the forest land and gave a free hand to land mafia in looting the green gold of the State by felling the trees and encroaching the thousands kanals of land. The BJP said the Congress is not concerned for Gujjars and Nomads whose interests are totally safe and protection of forest land is more for the interests of the Gujjar community as they feed their cattle and sheep in forests and earn their livelihood. BJP taking serious objection to opposition of Congress and separatists said that they were hoodwinking the public opinion in this regard. Reiterating the resolve of the government to free the forest land from the clutches of encroachers, BJP which iscoalition partner in the State government today strongly condemned attempts by frustrated political leaders who have been rejected and dethroned by massive public mandate, to give a communal tinge to the laudable drive launched by forest authorities under the guidance of Forest Minister Bali Bhagat. Making a scathing attack on these leaders BJP State Spokesperson, Farooq Khan while talking to media personshere today said these rejected politicians mostly from Congress Party in a miserable attempt to gain relevance are now finding common cause with hard line anti-national separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and MirwaizUmer Farooq. He asked these self styled champions of Jammu Muslims to desist from such often defeated nefarious attempts at communal polarization in Jammu province. It is not Jammu Muslim who is threatened by this anti-encroachment drive but these are the politicians belonging to political parties who misruled the State in the past. Large tracts of forest land in the outskirts of Jammu city have been encroached by these unscrupulous elements who finding themselves to be in hot waters now with this unrelenting drive of forest authorities and they are making attempts to give a communal colour to this long overdue exercise. Farooq Khan reiterated that the anti-encroachment drive was initiated from the four localities where everybody in State know that a large number of corrupt political leaders as well as corrupt bureaucrats have encroached upon the precious assets of the State. The requirement of the healthy forests is common to all the communities living in Jammu as well as in the other parts of the State and the survival of the forests is directly connected with the survival of the nomad communities. Khan also decried the attempts of these frustrated self-styled community leaders to project this drive as anti-tribal communities and stated that it is the present coalition government which has taken it upon itself to work dedicatedly for the upliftment of nomad/tribal communities and for this purpose a separate Tribal Ministry has been formed. Lauding the efforts of forest authorities and Forest Minister, Farooq Khan called upon the forest authorities to extend this drive to other areas of the State where the unholy nexus between corrupt politicians and bureaucrats has played havoc with the forest wealth of the State. Khan also called upon all the right thinking and law abiding citizens of the State to fully cooperate with forest authorities in this drive. Meanwhile Party general secretary, Dr Narinder Singh also took the separatists to task and said that how can they claim to be champions of Gujjars and nomads as the maximum people of these communities were killed by militants on the behest of separatists during turmoil by terming them informers. He said the BJP is for the welfare of all communities in the State and it will not let the interests of Gujjars and nomads to be harmed. It was for the betterment of these people that BJP which is part of the collation tried to restore the forest land so that the nomadic gujjars are not deprived of fodder to their cattle and sheep. He said Gujjars of Jammu as well as other parts of the State are mature and they will not fall in the trap of separatists or other parties. |
